Magic Seekers: "The way it is"

Monday 28 June 10:00 (GMT +0)

School of Arts & HumanitiesSculpture (MA)
Estimated Duration: 1 hour

Filmed during the first of the Covid-19 lockdowns in London 2020, this short video came about in an intuitive way - seeking and finding comfort in the poem ‘The Way It Is’ by William Stafford as well in nature. These two components then merged into a video piece. Change is natural, in nature this is evident in the seasons. In our lives and in the world, change happens whether we want it to or not. With the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, each of our lives changed in some way or another. The thought then, that amidst all of this chaos, there is a “thread” (fate? purpose?) for each of us… that thought might be the only thing getting us through.

Rae Lind (b. 1991) is an artist currently based in Stockholm. She graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2018 and has previously exhibited at SET Dalston, Unison Gallery and The Royal Academy. The piece ‘The Way It Is’ was first published on the website Notes From Quarantine in May 2020.

'Let us beautify and ennoble with a grand carnal dream: a collaborative safe-space' is a series of events organised by students of the MA Sculpture programme and curated by Araceli Gómez Castro.

These events will take place on the RCA2021 Platform (via https://vimeo.com/event/1069905 ) and at "Proxy", the physical MA Sculpture Degree Show at Cromwell Place, London.

Those invited by Araceli to take part in the project come from inter disciplinary backgrounds but she has chosen to bind them under a single moniker - Magic Seekers, which she defines as a vehement and vertiginous person, deeply politicized and at the same time committed to their personal realization processes. Each collaborator is welcome to use the space as they please, creating dialogue using Aracelis research, whilst having fun and exploring their own practices.
